Nestled in Old Town, Fox Eyes Makeup Studio is bridging the creative gap between mall makeup services and upscale, at-home makeup artistry.
“There’s such a demand in San Diego for women to get their makeup done,” said the company’s founder, Kamielea “Kamie” Waldriff-Torres. “San Diego women care what they look like.”
Waldriff-Torres became interested in makeup later in life, recalling that she looked up to the makeup artists at MAC Cosmetics and eventually, became one. After years working for beauty companies like MAC and Bare Minerals, she decided to go freelance and was met by a high demand for her private makeup services.
With over 10 years of experience under her makeup brush belt, Waldriff-Torres launched her own studio last summer. At Fox Eyes Makeup Studio, she offers makeovers for any occasion: weddings, bridal showers, date night, girls night out and more.
With complimentary beverages, snacks and WiFi the studio’s menu of services includes bridal makeup trials, Halloween makeup, one-on-one makeup lessons and makeup services at home. Each makeup application comes with complimentary lashes.
For an additional $15, guests can Waldriff-Torres’ own line of rewearable Fox Eyes Makeup Faux Mink Lashes, which will debut in-studio and online this summer. The fake eyelashes can be worn up to 12 times, Waldriff-Torres said, adding that each pair has an “Oomf” glam effect.
While the aesthetic behind her studio is inspired by a fox-eye uplifted look with “sexy, sultry makeup,” Waldriff-Torres says she can achieve any look her client wants, be it a soft glam or a more glamorous vibe.
Makeup application services start at $150 and appointments can be booked up to 45 days in advance.
