Get the facts before you react

On Saturday, May 15, around 1 p.m., as we approached the end of Wildcat Canyon Road heading toward the Estates, there was a white kitchen-sized trash bag in the middle of our lane on the bridge. I put on my emergency blinkers and my husband got out to move the bag out of the lane.

By the time he got back in the car there were several other cars behind us. We turned right on San Vicente Road. About a mile later when the road opened to two lanes, a white 4-door BMW sedan pulled up next to us in the right lane and the man driving began shouting obscenities at my husband with his middle finger raised.

I raised my pointer and wagged it back in forth to let him know that we hadn’t dumped that trash bag, but removed it to prevent a traffic incident. And then he cursed us one more time and turned right on Vista Vicente Drive before the village store.

Very upsetting to be falsely accused because he only saw the last half of our RAK (random act of kindness). A few hours later, we drove by the same bridge and were pleased to see someone kindly finished up the task by removing the bag of trash from the side of the bridge.

Thankful to live in Ramona with neighbors who care. Also had a chance to reflect on how easy it is to misjudge a situation when you only see part of it.
