SAN DIEGOSAN DIEGO — A man who authorities said drove a truck carrying his twin toddler daughters off Sunset Cliffs, plunging all three of them into the ocean, remained jailed without bail Monday on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder.
Robert Brians, 47, was also booked on suspicion of two counts each of kidnapping and child cruelty, as well as one count of burglary.
Prosecutors have until Wednesday to decide what charges, if any, they might bring against him for the crash early Saturday morning. If they do charge him, they have another 10 days to arraign him.
According to authorities, Brians’ wife called 911 around 4:30 a.m., reporting that her husband had taken off with their twins, and that he planned to drive his pickup off the Coronado bridge.
A San Diego police lieutenant spotted the pickup in Ocean Beach, but when he went to the driver, the driver sped off and careened over a cliff. A police K-9 officer who rushed to the scene used a 100-foot-long canine leash in his car to rappel down the cliff to save the family.
A GoFundMe set up to assist with medical expenses stated Sunday that the twin 2-year-olds were hospitalized in stable condition.
