Started in 2011, National Drive Electric Week features more than 300 local events across the U.S. aimed to build EV awareness and inspire drivers to consider an EV for their next car. This year’s event is expected to be the biggest National Drive Electric Week yet, taking place from Sept. 14-22.
Nissan is the official automotive sponsor of the event and locally SDG&E is hosting the 2019 San Diego EV Day this Saturday in Liberty Station. For the last three years, San Diego EV Day has been the largest such gathering in the world, according to SDG&E.
Presented in part by Cleantech San Diego and the Center for Sustainable Energy, the free event is an opportunity for the EV curious to test drive multiple cars in a non-selling environment. Participants can learn about the latest technologies and how to charge, where to charge, where chargers are getting built and special electricity pricing plans for EV owners.
The seventh annual San Diego EV Day will run this Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Liberty Station, Ingram Plaza, 2751 Dewey Road, 92106. Event highlights will include test drives of more than 30 battery-electric vehicles (including bicycles) and plug-in hybrid models from more than a dozen automakers including Arcimoto, BMW, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Kia, Nissan and Tesla.
Those who participate in a test drive, will have the chance to win one of 25 $1,000 rebates to offset the purchase or lease price for a new, fully electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle.
Also featured will be experts to explain owning and charging an EV, financial incentives (local, state and federal) for buying and leasing an EV. And the New Children’s Museum will have hands-on activities for young EV enthusiasts.
